Laws On Behalf Of Truck Drivers

Truck driving jobs seem to be simple and easy. But try to imagine yourself in the state of a truck driver.

Surely it’s not a pleasure seeing only endless rows of cars, trucks, vans and vehicles during the boring hours of your drive.

In addition, there are long-lasting and boundless traffic jams, even problems with traffic cops. All these will sooner or later get on your nerves, and you’ll come across different health problems. As you see, truck driving is very irritating and boring. Thus, truck drivers need regular working hours and breaks to avoid any health problems.

Laws, defining work hours of truck drivers, are formulated to lessen the possibility of getting bored or tired and they differ from country to country.

United States

Working hours for Truck jobs in the United States are formulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. After 11 hours of driving truck drivers must have a 10-hour interval. During an 8-day period drivers cannot exceed 70 hours of driving. In the US drivers complete their working hours in a logbook.

Australia

In Australia the hours of a working day depend on the weight of the truck the driver carries. If it is heavier than 12 tons, the driver should have a 30 minute rest after each 5 hour drive, and a 10 hour rest after each 14 hour interval. After the driver works for 72 hours, he should take a 24 hour rest. Like in the US, Australian drivers are also obliged to fill the hours and kilometers of their drive in a logbook.

European Union

In the European Union, truck drivers are not allowed to drive more than 4.5 hours without a break. After an uninterrupted drive of 4.5 hours, drivers should have a break of at least 45 minutes. The working hours of a week cannot exceed 56 hours, and the driver can’t drive more than 90 hours in a fortnight.

Although everything is being done in favor of drivers, trucking jobs still remain tiresome and fatiguing. And for working as a truck driver one must satisfy special requirements: physical and mental health, great strength and iron will.
