Healthy And Unemployed? Take The Wheel!

Healthy And Unemployed? Take The Wheel!A trucking job today is a very wanted and appreciated job. It seems to be an easy and easily-found job, but in fact it is not so. There are a great deal of things that are taken into account before accepting anyone as a truck driver.

A truck driver is defined as a person who earns his living driving a truck either in a city or through several states, providing an essential service to industrialized areas by transporting finished goods and raw materials over land. Yes, it does not need high intelligence and outstanding mental abilities; instead it does need good health and fitness and a lot of energy in order to be able to drive for several days and nights having only short naps and breaks.

We distinguish between two main types of truck drivers: Owner-operators, that are also known as O/Os, and company drivers. The first type of drivers may arrange a contract with a trucking company and work on them using their own trucks, while the second type works for a company driving the company’s truck. The O/Os in fact have more rights and benefits.

There is a wide range of trucking jobs‘ categories allowing truck drivers to choose one they are interested in. Of course, there is not such a great difference in driving this or that truck, or transporting these or those goods. Nevertheless, they are given a variety to choose from.

Depending on the area we distinguish between local truck driving jobs, regional truck driving jobs and interstate truck driving job. Local drivers are the drivers who work within the limits of their hometowns or nearby towns. They do not work during the night but usually return home nightly. Regional drivers, on the contrary, work over several states close to their hometowns, but also drive at nights and are away from their homes for short periods. Interstate drivers cover several thousands of miles and are away from home for a week or two, sometimes even more. This kind of job is very tiring and boring, which is why companies pay much more for that job than for the other ones in order to keep them.

Because a trucking job is very tiring and boring, several companies sometimes organize team driving, namely, the drivers work taking turns. When one is tired the other takes the wheel letting his partner have a little rest, and vice verse.

Thus, there are many advantages given to truck drivers, and they are not such low paid workers. Nevertheless, if you are physically unfit and weak, never take the risk of getting “driver fatigue.”
