The Mustang Power
I will say right from the beginning–the Ford Mustang Shelby is my dream car.
Nothing can be more powerful, graceful, wild and gorgeous than that car.
The Mustang Shelby was first released in 1968. But the Ford Mustang differs from other sports cars in that it always keeps getting better, while preserving its original design and character.
Every time I see a Mustang driving up the street I feel like crying: it’s unbearable to see that wild thing passing you by and not be able to touch and drive it even once, just once!
The other day I took another way home, deciding to take a short cut. So, I walked along a shabby half-ruined street, and it happened to me again–my heart started beating faster, I got petrified and stood there with my mouth gaping open…
There was a Mustang parked in front of an entrance, a shiny, brand new one in the middle of an empty street! And it was the latest model (I have to confess I know a lot about Mustangs, I have to be careful that this car doesn’t turn into a fetish), the GT500KR, in jet black! It was released for the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the first Mustang Shelby in 2008–the most powerful Mustang in the history of Ford: 5.4 liter supercharged V8 engine yielding 540 horsepower, 510 ft-lbs. of torque, and a 6-speed manual transmission!
Everything was awesome about this car. And I was standing and staring at one of only 1,000 such cars in the world. The first one was presented among some cars for auction in New York and was sold for $600,000!
Lost in thoughts, I didn’t even notice someone speaking to me until he, realizing why I am not answering, took a position in front of the car. It was the owner. We had a nice talk, he told me it was his dream car, too and he had been saving money for years to buy a Mustang. And he did it! He was so kind, he asked me if he should give me a lift, and do you think I said no?
And it was worth it, it surpassed all my expectations. It felt great, as if your muscles are getting strained and you feel the tension down there–in the wheels. I didn’t want to get out, but I had to…
I will never forget that day, and maybe one day my dream will come true–I will be able to buy my new luxury car, my very own Mustang.
