Mercedes-Benz SLK At Detroit

Mercedes Benz SLK At DetroitWith a new aggressive bumper, the Mercedes-Benz SLK for 2009 looks more sportier then ever. It feels like Mercedes designers redesigned it with F1 and SLK in mind. Interior details have been updated as well. It’s now more optimized and more driver-focused. The instrument panel was redesigned and steering wheel has more multifunction buttons as well.

Automobile has info about the technical side of Mercedes-Benz SLK.

Mercedes has given the 3.5-liter V-6 more grunt. The engine is now allowed to rev to 7200 rpm, while a new intake manifold, an increased compression ratio, and valvetrain changes all help it make 32 more horsepower, for an even 300 at 6500 rpm. Torque is up seven lb-ft to 265 at 4900 rpm.

The last generation of the Mercedes Benz SLK has been one step behind the BMW Z4 and the Porsche Boxster in sales and reviews. That’s because it didn’t look as sporty as its competitors and the handling and acceleration wasn’t perfect as well.

So, it’s obvious that with this model Mercedes will try to return its leading position. Time will show whether the facelift will be enough to beat its competitors. The Mercedes SLK is ready for Detroit’s January Show although it won’t go on sale until April 2008.
