Lotus Elise SC

Lotus Elise SCThese days the Nissan GT-R is in the center of everyone’s attention which perhaps isn’t so surprising. Compared with other newly unveiled vehicles, the GT-R is an affordable supercar to compete with Porsche or Ferrari. Now it’s Nissan’s turn with the Lotus Elise SC.

If you want a car which can reach 100km/h in 4.6 seconds then be ready to pay about $90,000. Well, maybe not as the Lotus Elise SC offers that for $60,000. Acceleration is not the only thing that you get as the exterior is aerodynamic enough to offer superlative handling.

Incidentally, the SC in the name stands for supercharged as this vehicle is powered by a supercharged 1.8 liter engine that produces 218hp and responds to a 6-speed manual transmission. And it isn’t only the 1.8 liter engine which provides the SC with its speed. The company’s motto of “performance through light weight” also enters the equation.

Here’s what Edmunds reports.

That said, the benefits of the ultra-lightweight, fine-handling chassis wrought by the folks from Hethel are still in play here. Despite being pretty much loaded with all of the major options offered by Lotus except the blasphemous hardtop, our test car registered just 2,028 pounds on our scales.

The standard SC will cost you even less — around $50,000. However, you’ll need to pay extra for all the optional packages reported on by Autocar.

Options packs across the Elise range are also now simplified: you can either have a Touring Pack or a Sport Pack.

The Touring Pack brings leather trim, carpets and sound insulation, while the Sport Pack gets you Bilstein sports dampers, traction control, twin oil coolers, sports seats and sports wheels and tyres.

Enjoy the test-drive by Fifth Gear.
