The 2010 Chevy Camaro Is Coming To Town

The 2010 Chevy Camaro Is Coming To TownMany of us have been wondering for a while now when General Motors would bring back our old sport car favorites. Personally I’d like to see a new Pontiac Firebird hit the showrooms.

However, seems as though the folks at Chevrolet understand that there is indeed demand for affordable, fast and sleek cars, they way they used to make them. Here comes the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. This beautiful beast may be hard to tame.

The 2010 Camaro is for the most part modeled after its 1969 grandfather, inside and out. The exterior has all the lines and indentations that you’ve probably seen in old photos. The cabin is essentially a futuristic version of the model from 40 years ago, with the double-barrel gauge cluster and the oversized steering wheel. There’s definitely a retro vibe with this baby. They even revived the good old Chevy SS badge to add more spice. The Camaro comes in four colors: red, black, silver, and metallic orange.

Under the hood is the powerhouse that you would expect from a Chevy’a 3.6 liter V6 with 304 hp or the available, let’s say preferred, 6.2 liter V8 400hp behemoth, the same found in the Pontiac G8 GXP (although it doesn’t exactly handle the same, but close). The V8 comes standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission, although a 6-speed manual is certainly an option, which magically adds 26 more horsepower incidentally. If you’re worried about mileage, don’t be. The V8 touts 23 miles per gallon on the highway, while the V6 gets 29 mpg. Yes, I am taking about a muscle car that can yield that kind of mileage. Amazing what the boys at GM can do once they put their minds to it.

By now most of you are familiar with the Camaro’s lines that update the look of the 1969 model, but did you know that V-6 (LT) and V-8 (SS) cars aren’t exactly alike? Beyond the badges and wheels/tires, the SS version features an aggressive hood with a simulated air intake in the upper front fascia and larger lower air intake. The RS package adds BMW-style “halo” ringed headlights, a rear spoiler, specific tail lamps and 20-inch wheels with a Midnight Silver finish so you can look like an SS but pack V-6 power.

The Camaro is priced to fly at $22,995 for the base model with the six cylinder engine and $30,995 for the SS package. As much as I would love to have the V8, you still have a hell of a car with the base model, and you can’t beat the price. Supposedly GM has already taken 14,000 orders, which is an impressive number for a car that has just been made available.

From what I’ve already read the vehicle ratings of the new Camaro are very high. No real complaints, but then again, why should there be?

It’s high time that the Chevy Camaro materialized from nostalgic memory, when we remember how cool our uncle looked while he was crusin in his 1969 beauty. Now it’s our time to look sharp.
