Audi R8 TDI: Le Mans Diesel Monster
Yesterday we posted about how successful 2007 was for Audi, and today we’ll be concentrate on the German car manufacturer’s top model, the Audi R8.
As soon as it appeared, several auto magazines tested it, concluding that it was perhaps the best supercar among other newcomers such as the new Lamborghini Gallardo. Here’s one remark from Top Speed, for example.
The Audi R8 wins because it is currently the most complete vehicle with the hottest body in the sports segment and, despite being a newcomer, displays no serious weaknesses.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that the R8 will participate in the Le Mans 24 Hours Race, but with some unexpected modifications. That model competing will be an Audi R8 V12 TDI Le Mans and under the hood will be a diesel powered V12 engine.
According to AutoBlog the V12 engine produces 500hp which allows R8 to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 4.2 seconds. The Audi R8 TDI can reach a top speed of 186mph.
It will be interesting to see how well it does.
