Hummer H3: Fifth Gear’s Off Road Test

Hummer H3Hummers are the types of cars that people either love or hate. Arguably, most Hummer fans are in America or countries in the developing world who like to show off while people in Europe prefer more sensible vehicles with low emission characteristics and which are fuel-efficient and easy to maneuver.

Maybe some owners needed a car which would also be suitable off-road, but there are better options such as the Mercedes G Wagen so there was no doubt that Hummer would have to make some serious changes. The result is that the current generation of Hummer, the H3, is smaller than its two huge predecessors.

According to Edmunds the standard version has 220-horsepower, 3.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine but that you can upgrade it to V8, 5.3 liter engine.

In our Hummer H3 road test, we recorded a 0-60-mph time of 11 seconds. Fuel economy isn’t all that great either. For 2008, the Alpha version of the H3 debuted, sporting a 300-hp 5.3-liter V8 that provided more respectable performance. With the Alpha, the 0-60 dash was reduced to 8.8 seconds.

Anyway, Fifth Gear have a test available for viewing online so check it out below.
