Detroit 2008: Volkswagen Passat CC
If you’re looking for a four-door luxury sedan then you’re probably already considering a model from Audi, Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
These companies’ top models are the best on the market although there was once a time when you’d definitely choose BMW or Mercedes-Benz. However, other car manufacturers were quick to catch up, and the Audi A7 can already hold its own against the BMW 7 series and Mercedes S class.
Now it’s the turn of Volkswagen who don’t want to be trailing the pack. Although the Passat wasn’t really in the same class as any of the previously mentioned models, a new Passat CC was shown at the Detroit 2008 Autoshow based on the Phaeton platform. The first impression might be that the CC is the same as its predecessor, but it becomes apparent soon after that effective modifications to the exterior make the CC look sexier and and even regal.
According to Uncrate CC offers several innovative assistance systems as well.
The Lane Assist lane keeping system; Dynamic Drive Control electronic chassis control system; Park Assist parking assistant; and ACC Automatic Distance Control with stopping distance reducing Front Assist. The CC, which Volkswagen calls its first four-door coupe, also sports a huge, electrically actuated Panorama power vent sunroof.
Overall it looks much better than the Phaeton, but the backlights might be considered by some to ugly and not fitting in well with the entire look. Moreover, it appears as though Volkswagen designed the CC with the Mercedes CLS in mind.
