2008 Smart Fortwo
Smart is probably the smallest car in the world with a length of 250cm. The brand Smart was created by Swiss watch manufacturer Swatch and Mercedes-Benz with the main goal of manufacturing an affordable car for students.
They wanted to make a small enough car for easy parking, and they definitely did it. A standard parking space will easily accommodate three Smart cars. Although two powerful brands are behind the Smart car, the first generation was criticized a lot for its poor handling. But Smart was not going to give up so soon. The result of their efforts is the well-polished 2008 Smart Fortwo. Here is what Edmunds reports.
The old Smart was heavily criticized for its slow-witted steering and ponderous, jerky gearchange. Both elements have been updated for the new car. The automated manual gearbox now offers five speeds instead of six and the semiautomatic shifts are said to be smoother and faster than before.
The 2008 Smart Car reported the following about changes in size.
The all new 2008 Smart Fortwo, the next generation Smart, has been extended by a full seven inches from past models. The wheelbase has been increased a little over 2 inches and the track width by one half inch. The new wider design of the tailgate handle also contributes to the wider effect.
Besides being one of the smallest vehicles in the world it has the smallest engine as well– a 1-liter, three-cylinder job with 71hp. So, this car is perfect for parking, looks cool and what’s more important, you can have one for just $12,000.
