Larger Car Seats For Americans
It’s not a secret that eating fast foods and drinking non-lite colas leads to obesity. It’s also known that Americans top the charts when it comes to such diets and it’s no surprise that being overweight is fast becoming a serious problem in the U.S.
What people might not know, however, is that sooner or later, the tendency for Americans to get larger and larger will lead to finding it impossible to sit comfortably in their cars. Indeed, a study to see if car makers consider this fact when they are working on designing seats, was recently held during the Detroit motor show. The study highlighted the fact that this is never considered.
However as Auto Unleashed reports one of the main US seat suppliers, Johnson Controls, is working on a solution.
They are studying the human form and are working on a new foam material which is thinner than the current one used by most suppliers and also offers more support. One of the company’s representatives said that the news seats will offer improved comfort for the “larger” passengers.
Maybe this will mean that we’ll see more cars with wider seats at the next Detroit motor show, but on the other hand, perhaps making car seats more comfortable for overweight people could be considered a substitute for proper diet and exercise instead.
