BMW’s Anti Dog Piss Technology
Yesterday saw Aprils Fool’s day come and go, and for quite a while it was impossible to take any news story and blog entry at face value. The motor world was no exception with Kia’s “announcing” a Nintendo Wii-concept car although what appeared to be an April Fools’ by BMW was by far the best..
For sure, “BMW’s Anti Dog Piss Technology” was the funniest, and not least because BMW also took the time to explain how their “new technology,” the Canine Repellent Alloy Protection system (or, ahem, CRAP for short) works. The Wired Blog Network has more.
Using the EfficientDynamics Brake Energy Regeneration system, energy that would normally have been lost during engine over-run and during braking is harnessed as Rim Impulse Power (R.I.P.) and stored for future use. Whenever a dog tries to relieve itself on the wheel of a suitably-equipped BMW, a small and relatively painless electric shock is immediately administered to the animal, thus deterring it from future fouling.
Another site paultan.org reports what Dr Hans Zoff (Hand’s Off?), Head of Automotive Security from BMW AG, said on the matter.
Research shows that most BMW customers like to keep their cars clean and dog fouling is a constant irritant. Not only does the Canine Repellent Alloy Protection system support this aim, but it does so using energy created through the EfficientDynamics programme. Beauty through engineering perfection our philosophy in a wheel nut.
Well, it might not be true, but the idea is a good one although many dog owners won’t be too happy about the idea of using electric shocks to scare off pesky canine pests.
