370 BMWs Damaged During Shipping
Autoblog reports that over 370 brand new BMWs were damaged during transportation to New Jersey, but not during transit. The cars were damaged as they were taken off the ship. Seventy were damaged beyond repair while others will be eventually sent to dealer.
Some of the cars damaged were new M3s and this must be especially unfortunate for the owners awaiting their new V8-powered uber-coupes. No doubt this will also lead to an extension of the waiting period many potential customers will have to endure. I’m not sure how many of those on the waiting list will feel about taking delivery of an $80,0000 BMW that has already been damaged and repaired in the past, but anyway.
Given BMW’s reputation, 370 cars is not so large a number as to write-off or to offer at much lower prices.
