Kelly tires are known for their high quality, long life and reasonable prices, features which are indeed very important for any driver or tire dealer. The company was originally called The Rubber Tire Wheel Company, because at that time it made rubber carriage wheels. Its founder Arthur Grant established a new way to use the tire.
It was held on the wheel by two longitudinal wires embedded in the rubber forming a circle of a smaller circumference than the tire. The tire had an immediate success because the rubber stayed on the wheel and the compound was of good quality. Later, the company was sold to The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and its success continues to rise more and more.
In 1994, The Kelly-Springfield Tire Company celebrated its 100th anniversary. At that time, it was the oldest tire company in United States.
Another famous tire company on the European continent, Michelin Tire Manufacturing Company of France, is ranked second in the global tire market. The history of the success of this company is quite amazing. The two brothers Edouard and Andre Michelin ran a rubber factory in France.
One day a cyclist addressed asked them to repair the pneumatic tire. As it was glued to the rim, it took many hours to repair and thus wasn’t practical. It made the brothers think about other ways to make pneumatic tires, without gluing them to the rim. So they became famous for their innovations, one of them being a radial tire, known as the “X tire.”
