Tata Motors Buys Land Rover & Jaguar?

Land RoverMany things happen in the motor industry, but some are more unexpected than others. An example of that is news that Tata Motors is now the owner of luxury auto brands Land Rover and Jaguar.

Ford has sold the two to the Indian car manufacturer for $2 billion. Ironically, the last time Tata Motors was in the news was when news hit that they had made the cheapest car in the world. Alongside that model will now sit these two luxury brands. Well, Ford hasn’t confirmed the news yet, but everyone seems to think it’s a matter of time.

The news is even causing a stir in the UK where the ultra-nationalist British National Party says “Britain should have bought back Jaguar and Land Rover.”

The deal will mean that jobs in the West Midlands and at the Halewood plant on Merseyside will be lost as production is moved to India where labour costs are a third of those here. It will mean more British manufacturing shutting down, more British jobs lost, more British lives ruined and more British communities devastated thanks to the “global free market” to which Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats all insist Britain’s economic future is signed up to.
