Mercedes R Class Failure
It’s hard to believe that a company like Mercedes-Benz can manufacture a vehicle which fails to sell well, but nobody is perfect. When Mercedes presented its R class, for example, everyone loved it and Mercedes decided to manufacture 50,000 units annually, with half staying in the United States. However, only 18,000 sold last year so now Mercedes must be hoping it can erase the model from the company’s history as well as from the memories of customers.
Even so,
according to AutoBlog, Mercedes is planning a replacement for the R-Class, and while it could retain the same big CUV/wagon set-up, it’s more likely to take another format altogether.
Mercedes biggest competitor at BMW, meanwhile, is evidently thinking otherwise with the X6 crossover it just unveiled yesterday.
With the BMW X6 headed for success, Mercedes needs to think of replacing the failed R with something special which can compete with its rivals. Knowing Mercedes-Benz, they can probably do it.
