The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Crossover

If you’re looking for a new crossover vehicle I recommend that you check out the new 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class luxury auto.
The Mercedes-Benz GLK is nothing like any other crossover on the market offered by competitors like Toyota, Volvo and even BMW. This Mercedes stands out on its own, which goes without saying. The body is a bit angular, you’re not going to find any sexy curves on this machine. But for a glorified, oversized station wagon, which is essentially what a crossover vehicle is, it’s very good looking. Think of it as a baby luxury suv.
The interior of the GLK is indeed very attractive, typical of a Mercedes. The standard vinyl upholstery which comes standard looks and feels very similar to leather, which is optional. There’s plenty of room for a party of five. A central knob commands the stereo and navigation systems, with other controls on the dashboard and steering column. Other optional car interior accessories include two TV screens affixed to the back of the front seats for the rear passengers, a 6-CD changer along with an 11-speaker surround sound system, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity support, and dual climate controls for front passengers. Another cool option is a glass roof that covers everyone’s heads.
The engine is actually the same one found in another Mercedes model, as Ezra Dyer from the New York Times reveals:
The GLK also shares its propulsion “a 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 and a 7-speed automatic transmission” with the C350 Sport. This is plenty of power, even with roughly 4,000 pounds of GLK to lug around.
Basically you have the same engine in a different body for about $5000 less. Not a bad savings. The GLK goes from 0-60 mph in about 7 seconds.
The suspension is very tight so you won’t have to worry about accidentally landing in potholes or rolling over speed bumps a tad too fast. Driving the GLK is going to be as pleasant as you can expect from top-class German engineering. Sure, the competition in this car class is wide, as you have plenty of other attractive options available to you. But what about the cost, how cheap can the GLK crossover actually be?
Remarkably, the GLK is priced remarkably low for a Mercedes at $33,900 as the base manufacturer’s price. Apparently it’s the second most affordable Mercedes in the company’s lineup. Seems like a great deal to me.
