New York Auto Show: Nissan Denki Cube

New York Auto Show: Nissan Denki CubeIt’s no secret that sooner or later electric vehicles will become everyday sights for us and one day will completely replace petrol-driven vehicles. That’s the reason that car manufacturers keep on unveiling electric powered vehicles.

Now, Nissan don’t want to be left behind and at the 2008 New York Auto Show will present the Nissan Denki Cube concept. The word Denki means electric in Japanese.

The lithium-ion battery-powered Denki Cube is an attempt to draw attention to Nissan’s global environment efforts. Serious Wheels reports about the lithium-ion battery technology.

Nissan’s compact lithium-ion battery technology, one of the company’s traditional strengths, provides batteries with twice as much energy compared with a conventional cylindrical battery of the same type and safer operation due to the use of chemically stable spine-structured manganese for the electrode material. In order to better leverage Nissan’s lithium-ion battery capabilities, a new company, Automotive Energy Supply Corp. (AESC), was jointly established with NEC Corp and NEC Tokin Corp, with the goal of dramatically enhancing future battery performance and reducing battery costs.

Nissan will not be alone with its Denki Cube as Subaru will soon be showing its R1e and Mitsubishi will display its i MiEV along with the i MiEV Sport concept. Compared with the competition, the Cube can hardly be called attractive, but considering that it’s a concept, it might get an image overhaul before production.
