Hyundai To Produce Hybrid Cars From 2009
Hyundai is one car manufacturers that doesn’t have any serious brand leaders in the premium sector, but the Korean company does make every effort to be at the top when it comes to entry level vehicles. Even so, Hyundai can’t really compete with competitors from Europe and America famous brands, but they will try to enter new markets starting from next year.
Entering new markets is always a good if risky business, but as the era of fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly cars is now upon us, Hyundai has identified one that shows great promise for returns on investments in the future, namely hybrid electric vehicles. And it seems as though Hyundai is very serious about hybrids.
Hyundai-Kia Chairman Chung Mong Koo said that from 2009 they will start mass production of such vehicles. The 4 Wheels Blog quotes Chung Mong Koo.
The importance of developing futuristic, environmentally-friendly cars is increasing for sustainable growth. Therefore, technology for advanced cars, like the hybrid, is imperative. We also plan to produce a small fleet of fuel cell electric vehicles from 2012.
Another site, AutoblogGreen reports that the first hybrid car will be the 2009 Elantra, sold in South Korea as the Avante.
It will initially run on LPG while a gasoline version will soon be developed for the American market.
Hyundai isn’t new to producing hybrid cars, and the company has already made more than 2,000 for government agencies in South-Korea. However, this will be the first mass production of hybrids.
