Hybrid Vehicles Save World From Pollution

Hybrid Vehicles Save World From PollutionGreen and alternative-fuel vehicles have recently made a considerable move in automotive market and as gas prices are rising day by day, these vehicles are sticking to their high prices. So if you are in the market for one, it would be prudent to consider your options carefully. So let’s discuss hybrids so you can have a clearer picture of the one that’s right for you.

Today you can find two types of hybrids on market: full hybrids and mild hybrids. Which one you should chose depends on where you live and how you drive.

Full hybrids (Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Escape, Nissan Altima, Toyota Prius and Camry) run at low speeds and do not start the gas engine until the car reaches 10-20mph in driving. They are more expensive, but they surely save more fuel and run cleaner. They are especially suitable for city driving.

Mild hybrids (Chevrolet Malibu and the Saturn Vue Green Line) increase the gas engine’s power when the latter is moving and shuts it down the moment the vehicle stops. Mild hybrids use electric power only for supporting the gas engine in mountainous areas and during acceleration.

Both of these options are quite acceptable as they both shut the gas engine down as soon as the car stops, and neither of them needs to be plugged in, as the battery recharges only by the gas engine and due to brakes.

Pros:

  • Hybrids nowadays are widely available, and the user does not have to change his behavior while driving
  • Some hybrids are desirable for tax discounts
  • In some places drivers can use carpool lanes with even one occupier
  • Save money by saving fuel
  • Leaves a smaller carbon footprint than the non hybrid car, making it and eco-friendlier vehicle

Cons:

  • Most hybrids cost much more than nonhybrids
  • Hybrids will not perform, speed-wise, as well as non hybrid cars in most cases
  • As fuel economy differs a lot, many hybrids fail to live up to their reputation for super-high gas mileage
  • The battery life and the cost for the battery change also makes it less pocket friendly in the long run
  • The issue of safety comes up, due to the lighter bodies of these cars.

So there are quite a number of things to consider when considering the hybrid, but let me end this post on a high, or maybe I should say low note. Low as in lower pollution for our planet. According to a recent research by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, hybrid vehicles are considerably cleaner as compared with non hybrid ones, and they produce 29 percent less smog-forming nitrogen oxide. Each saved gallon of gas lessens carbon dioxide emissions by 19 pounds, which undoubtedly will aid with the reduction of global warming. Thus, in choosing hybrid vehicles, one thing is definitely clear, we will be lightening the load of our planet, both from the immediate nuisance and health risks of air pollution and it’s after effects on our planet in the form of global warming.
