2009 Nissan GT-R
The first time the new Nissan GT-R was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show it was as a concept. Looking at the Nissan GT-R you wouldn’t guess that it’s able to beat such road-legal speed demons as the Porsche 911 Turbo, Audi R8, Chevy Corvette Z06, BMW M3, or Dodge Viper. Compared to them, the GT-R actually looks quite modest, but that’s definitely not the case under the hood.
Just imagine — 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 193mp/h for just $70,000. And even with its 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 engine producing 480hp, the engineers managed to meet ultra-low emission car standards. The 2009 Nissan GT-R, however, will have to thank its predecessors. According to Edmunds, and unlike previous models, the GT-R will not be a mass-production model.
Yet unlike previous generations of the GT-R, this new edition isn’t based on a mass-produced automobile. This GT-R is its own thing; it’s related to other Nissans in about the same way that the Porsche 911 is related to the Volkswagen Beetle. The new GT-R isn’t just a Skyline hot rod.
