2008 Mitsubishi Lancer EX
If you’re looking for the best four door sedan for around $25,000, then the new Mitsubishi Lancer EX might be the car for you.
First shown at the Tokyo Motor Show as concept model called the Lancer X (not EX), it’s attractive, aggressive and functional. Mitsubishi wanted to create a fast and safe car which they’ve managed to do. It’s the tenth Lancer in the series and compared to its predecessors, it has many innovations.
First of all, its exterior is wider and longer while the interior is comfortable. Most of the innovations relate to safety without sacrificing speed. The Lancer EX sports the latest technologies including All Wheel Drive and Dynamic Control System — S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control).
There are three options — 1.5, 1.8 and 2.0 liter. However, According to CarScoop Mitsubishi also announced that in 2008 an all-new 5-door Lancer Sportback (based on the 2005 Frankfurt Show Concept) will be released.
But what really caught our attention in Mitsubishi’s press release is that the Japanese carmaker talks about an “Upper-range version” details of which will be unveiled at a later stage. The “Upper-range version” will fit in between the 1.8-litre petrol/2.0 Diesel and the EVO in the Lancer’s range. If our inside info is correct, this could be the front wheel-drive MR version with a 2.0 turbo engine producing around 240Hp.
Compared with the competition, it’s obvious that the new Lancer EX is a leader has its place in the market, and not least because it is cheaper. However, it also has some pretty advanced systems and looks good too.
Enjoy the trailer.
