Mercedes-Benz Recalls 9,000 Diesel Vehicles

Mercedes Benz Recalls 9,000 Diesel VehiclesThe start of 2008 seems to be a bad year for Mercedes-Benz so far, and one marked by the recalling of thousands of vehicles. After 3 McLarrens were recalled, Mercedes-Benz USA is now recalling 9,000 diesel models.

The recall includes the 2007 E320 Bluetec, ML320 CDI, and GL320 CDI. The reason is that the crankshaft doesn’t function properly and makes the engine lose the power. AutoblogGreen carries NHTSA’s report on fact.

Consequence:WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE MAY LOSE POWER RATHER THAN ENTER A LIMP-HOME MODE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE RESTARTED AFTER FAILURE OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE SENSOR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The strange thing is that out of 12,000 models sold in U.S. last year, 9,000 are being recalled. Diesel powered engines were starting to gain in popularity recently, but I’m afraid that these kinds of things can’t help people consider making the switch to the option on offer.
